Why we should have class trips to different countries
Did you know that it took 20 years and 20,000 workers to create the Taj Mhal? How would you feel standing in Agra, India looking at the real thing and learning this fact? I strongly believe that we should have class trips to different countries. We could see and learn new languages, cultures and histories. We can see important landmarks and learn about their architecture. Lastly we can compare our school with others from all over the world and see that ‘other’ school in real life.
If you go to different countries you could learn the amazing history of that country. For example in Japan a huge tsunami and earthquake caused massive economic dislocations and losses of nuclear power in 2011. Imagine seeing what’s been rebuilt after this. Secondly Sri Lanka won the cricket world cup in 1996 and the 2002 ICC championship trophy; we could learn all about Sri Lanka and cricket. Did you know the oldest book in Japan dates back to 1 AD, think of seeing it in Tokyo museum?
Did you know the Empire state building is 443m high! If you and your class went on a trip to an important landmark, you would experience the real thing. Firstly did you know the Eiffel tower is 301 meters high, think of learning this fact right in front of it? You would remember it more. Secondly did you know the Burj Kalifa in Dubai is 830m high and it took 22,000,000 hours and 110,000 tons of concrete to build?! Imagine seeing this architectural marvel and learning that the idea started from a cigarette box. Could you imagine getting to talk to some architects who were part of it?
I think that if we have class trips to different countries we should compare schools in that country with ours and see what’s new and what we could do. For example, in the USA Spaced learning is new. In spaced learning children don’t know what’s coming next, like whether they are doing writing and quickly change to art. What if we tried this in New Zealand? Wouldn’t it be great to try what other schools do?
Overall we should have class trips to different countries because we can learn history, architecture and we can compare schools and take back some information to help us make changes. If I hadn’t travelled the world how would I know how to say bye in a different language for example in french we say au revoir.
